Welcome To Hocuspocusville...Part Deux!

I have not been very good at posting as much as I would like to lately...so sorry! I wish I could say it's because I have been busy sewing and creating super cool things, but the truth is...I'm just in lazy, sick mode right now! *A-choo *Sniffle* Sniffle*

I apologize for the coloring in some of these photos. It's so hard this time of year to get any decent light anywhere in my house. Without further a do, here are three more blocks in the Hocuspocusville quilt.

First up, Hagatha's Laundry!

I love this whole scene, and the ruffled angry cat makes me giggle every time I see it!

Lastly, my little tribute to Starbucks...The Bubble & Brew! It's a little difficult to see the colors in this photo, but I tried to stay true to the Starbucks colors.

Gotta love the menu board...and the prices...If only!

Welcome To Hocuspocusville!

Just a quick post today...I have lots of little projects waiting to be finished up! I thought I would show you a few of the Hocuspocusville blocks that I have been working on since late July..ugh! I really thought I would have these done in time for Halloween, but they are a little more time consuming than first realized. Anyways, I'm sure it will definitely be done in time for next Halloween *cough* cough*.

There are  a total of 12 embroidered blocks that make up this quilt. I am on block eight as we speak! They measure quite large (20"x20" blocks) and the quilt finished measures 68"x68"....Uh, that's almost as large as the largest wall I have in my entire house! Not sure where this massive quilt will hang...I guess that is for me to worry about next year right?

Ok, so the quilt is originally embroidery in black thread only...but I saw this quilt all made up at a quilt fair last year done in color, and I fell in love instantly! I have chosen to embroider each house in a different color, while using the same colors in other blocks to tie them all together. I felt like Morgana's Apothecary should be done in a bright Fuchsia and Purple!

I think that Spooky Lou's is my favorite so far! Mostly because it has the pretty red bicycle and the festive pendant.

Now, out of these brooms which are you more likely to choose...Obviously the LOADED one right? You know that broom has got some kick to it!

Dala Horse Curtains Are Always My Style

How many times does it take to make kitchen curtains? Three apparently...third times a charm and i'm glad! These are exactly what my little window needed and they are definitely my style!

It's very difficult sometimes to find what your style is isn't it?

I tried two other styles of curtains before, and realized they didn't quite "fit" or "feel" right. First, I tried black and white checkered cafe curtains...cute idea in my head, but clashed horribly with the brown cabinets. Second try...burlap/linen curtains based on these beautiful ones (6th photo down). I was hoping with these curtains that my kitchen would magically look like this, but alas...it didn't. Third and final try...fabric scraps and thrifted bias tape! "Fits like a glove".

While I liked the "look" that I was trying to achieve in my first two attempts, they just didn't flow with the rest of the rooms. Why did I try and fight it...I know what I like! Sometimes I make things harder and more difficult than they need to be.

After doing some digging in the fabric closet I chose my favorite staple fabric (unbleached Osnaburg) or "poor man's linen", my much loved dala horse print, and some vintage red and white striped bias tape I had squirreled away! My heart started pounding, and I knew this was the right combination...It was like a giant slap in the face! Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of the dala horse print left and I had to figure out how to get the right balance of fabrics and still be long enough to fit my window.

I remembered coming across this tutorial on making pillowcases with crochet edging! That is exactly what I did, and it added just the right amount of coziness (and length) to my curtain. I now have a sense of peace and all is well! Best of all, they didn't cost me anything...they were completely FREE!

Rainbow of Placemats

Sometimes life gets in the way and my sewing comes to a grinding halt! After two weeks I have finally finished my patchwork placemats and...I love them, the kids love them, and my table loves them!

Each little square...

has it's own story...

of where it came from.

Some are new...

some are found...

and some are from my very own childhood!

It sure makes setting the table for meals a little more special and exciting! The kids now fight over which color they want. So to solve the problem...whoever asks first to set the table get to pick the "color" for each person. See how sneaky I am at getting helpers!
