Happy Birthday to ME!

This past Friday was my birthday, and also the busiest day for our family! So we have been celebrating it in small chunks here and there. Honey took the day off from work to take me out for a tasty lunch and some shopping! I really enjoy afternoon dates...the kids are in school, you don't have to pay a babysitter, you don't have to worry about how late its getting, and you can get right in to eat because everyone is at work too!

Here are a few of the presents I got...I am so lucky and spoiled! My Mom gave me a wonderful stash of Halloween fabrics. These will come in sooo handy when I get ready to piece my HocusPocusVille Quilt. Books, magazines, coloring books, art supplies (I am so loving the fine tip Sharpie set...and so do the kids...I have to keep them under a close eye for fear of them suddenly disappearing)! I also have some yummy fabrics coming in the mail from Superbuzzy and Reprodepot (Thanks Honey for the generous gifts cards) that I will obviously be sharing when they arrive!

Speaking of quilts and fabrics, here is a little sneak peak of something I have been working on for a wonderful cause (I will be posting more about this soon), but for now it's off to be quilted by my sister a.k.a The Sassy Quilter!

I'm going to finish my Birthday celebration/weekend off by eating more of these delicious Birthday Party Ice Cream Sandwiches...complete with sprinkles (you know how I feel about sprinkles), coloring with all my markers and pencils and taking breaks to read and daydream inside some of my magazines!

No Pushing Please!

This is what you get when you are rudely pushed out of line at the cutting table in the fabric store...a chance to dig through the clearance bins, while patiently waiting your turn!

I found 11 lace sample pieces, all with beautiful beading and sequins. Perfect for cutting out and using in applique, or maybe as an overlay on a dolls dress. It is a line (The Designer Vault) that Jo-ann's will not be carrying anymore so they discounted the samples. I paid $2.00, which beats $49.99 Yd...*Gasp*! That better be one special occasion to go with that fancy dress!

So, I'm glad that I was pushed out of line ( the cutting table can be ruthless sometimes), because now I have these yummy laces...and YOU (rude lady) do not! *sticking tongue out*

Ok, now that that's out of my system...I didn't forget about my project that I have been ever so diligently working on. She is almost finished. Just a few more little tweaks here and there...and then hopefully I can show you her tomorrow!

Inside the Little Green Suitcase

A Paris Street Market is over for the season! It is always such a treat to go once a month kid-free and browse all the great stalls, filled to the brim with treasures. I think this was my most successful trip of the season. Look at my new Little Green Suitcase I scored for $3. I had to ask twice because I wasn't sure I heard right. But the best part...the inside!

As I opened it, I gasped with delight! Pretty paper, lovely mirror, clean and in perfect condition! I carried this through-out the day adding all my wonderful finds. Do you want to see?

Look how sweet these ric-rac flowers are on this flour sack dishtowel. Something I am going to have to try myself.

A practically new child's flower press. I can't wait to take this out and try it, and it's so much lighter than a phone book! My sister made me a flower press years ago for my birthday and I used it quite a bit. I really should dig it out of storage and see what I pressed!

This quilted bird ornament smells so sweet and yummy, and makes me hungry every time I pass by it! It is dipped in a cinnamon scented beeswax.

I can never pass up trims and ribbons, and these unopened packs of vintage bias tape were only .25 cents.

See, everything fits snug as a bug in my pretty Little Green Suitcase!

Another 50 States block finished up!

My favorite part...the Wild Horses! I tried to give the manes and tails some dimension by using two different colors of browns and grays. I think it turned out okay, but maybe next time I will use a variegated thread or, I could just keep just practicing. But for now I am satisfied!

This weekend while I was at the Quilt-A-Fair I came upon another great idea turned into a book: Get Your Stitch on Route 66: Quilts From the Mother Road. If state postcards/stamps aren't quirky enough for you check out these patterns of icons on this famous highway. They had two different quilts made up, one embroidered in black and the other embroidered with color, and both of the quilts and fabrics were fantastic. Alexander Henry has an awesome Route 66 fabric that is perfect for these types of quilts!

I guess this book is going on my list of 'Projects That Will Someday Be Done'!
