The first round of Quilt For Kids quilts are done! They have been quilted and bound and are ready
to be packaged and sent out. My sister did a fabulous job
quilting these, as always! I love to bind my quilts using bits and pieces of leftover fabrics from the quilts. It gives the quilt some movement and a hint of whimsy-patchwork. One of the perks of making quilts is that you get to name them...how fun is that?
I chose to name this quilt: Over the Rainbow, because I believe that this is what you would find somewhere over the rainbow...unicorns and bubblegum!
This quilt was the kit that I requested from Quilt For Kids and named it: Purrfectly Perfect! I know that some child is going to love snuggling in these quilts, because I had a hard time trying to pry these from my daughters fingers. Oh, the power of a quilt!
On a separate note, but still fabric related...
I forgot to show you my fabrics that I got for my birthday! Remember Honey gave me $ to order fabric from Suberbuzzy and Reprodepot? Here they are...and they are so fun, they make me all giddy!
Here is what I bought at Reprodepot: The yellow fabric is Aunt Grace Scottie Silhouette (but I like to think of them as Westies, because that is what we have...whoever saw a white Scottie? ) The other fabric is Aunt Grace Halloween Party. I loved it so much that I went back to change the yardage in my cart from a half yard to a full yard...and there was no more! I got the very last half yard (so sad)! But don't you just love the little man riding the rat and the Witch holding a balloon? I will most likely be using this in my HocuspocusVille Quilt.
Here is what I bought at Superbuzzy: Red Dala Horses... Remember I used the ivory version of this to make my Market Bag. Skeleton Keys, My Folklore Chocolate & Cream, My Folklore Scandi-Stripe...and my Most favorite and Best...Scandi Paper Cut! Does your heart skip a beat when you see this?
This fabric has the most wonderful feel and weight to it! It feels like linen, but it is actually 55% Linen and 45% Cotton. When I found this I knew EXACTLY what I was going to use it for! It was meant for this sad little chair!
I found this chair on the side of my parents' neighbors house. He was getting rid of some old dressers, chairs and such. My sister and I snagged the two dressers and this chair...for FREE! It is wider and shorter than a normal chair. I think it belonged to a vanity set, but turns out to be the perfect height and width for a 'Cello Practicing Chair'. Right now it is draped with a piece of patchwork fabric and really is an eyesore in the living room!
But after I paint and reupholster it, it will be fabulous and everyone will want to sit on it! I bought some black paint to paint the frame, but now I am thinking it might need to be a different color. What do you think, any suggestions? Now I just need it to warm up enough outside to sand and paint...hopefully in the next week or so!
Oh yeah, as a little side...what do you do with leftover scraps from quilts that are too big for the scrap pile, but too small to be folded and put with other larger fabric piles? I have a tower of these 'Scraps' and not sure where to put them. Do they need a box of their own...help me please!
