No matter how many times you nag remind the kids to check their pockets before doing laundry...It's bound to happen...Crayon melted everywhere and on everything! My dear wonderful son left a very, very red crayon in his pocket and turned the whole load of laundry a nice shade of pinky-orange with splattered red chunks.
A whole load of school clothes ruined...4 pairs of jeans (these are all of his jeans except for one that was done in the previous load), 3 pairs of pajamas, 2 shirts, and 1 pair of my daughters favorite weekend jeans (complete with two ripped knees) all dumped in the trash. This left me a little upset and my Honey running to the store to get some new jeans for my son!
A few days and a few dollars later I was watching one of the morning news shows, and lo and behold they were talking about how to remove RED crayon from your clothes!! The solution...vinegar? Now, some of you may be smarty-pants and already know this little secret, but I was a little skeptical. I ran to the big trash in the back yard and quickly dug up the bag of ruined clothes (on this occasion I was glad that Honey was a little slow in taking the trash out)! I figure vinegar is cheap, cheap, cheap, and the clothes are already ruined so why not try it....it can't get worse! So,here's the scoop: Just add 1 Cup vinegar to your laundry...soap and all!
It's a miracle! We all stood around the washer with our mouths gaping open, just like it was Christmas morning or something...amazing! Here is my advice: do this in small loads, it seems to work better, and you may need to rewash a few times or let it soak for a bit. The school clothes were saved and my son,Well...he still has to surrender his allowance for awhile.
I think that I am going to make a BIG note and stick it to the washer for next time, because you know this will happen again! Here are some more tips for using vinegar that I found. I'm sure there are a ton more out there, but if you know of a knock-out one let me know!
P.S I wonder if this would work on lip-gloss and chapstick...anyone had this experience yet?
