Birthday Wishes A Success!

Lauren's Birthday Doll was a success! Her eyes were big and her smile bigger when she spied her doll sitting on the table. The words..."Oh Mom, she is so pretty" melted my heart and I knew that I created exactly what she imagined!

She named her doll Kiki after one of her favorite movies, Kiki's Delivery Service by Studio Ghibli. I'm pretty sure the red shoes were inspired from there. Lauren carries her doll with her everywhere she goes, and is so proud to show her off to anyone who crosses her path.

Santa's Booty-Tutti

This Christmas I wanted to try something a little different with our holiday wrapping! I have the hardest time buying wrapping paper and ribbon, that is going to be torn to pieces and thrown away (I might as well throw my money away with it). So, in order to simplify and save our hard earned cash I made up some very large fabric bags...or Santa's Booty Bags! One for each in the family including two smaller ones for the dogs.

My thought is that since each bag is 20 x 20 1/2 that they should be large enough to hold quite a bit of Christmas booty. Which also means, once the bag is full, you stop buying presents because nothing else will fit...see it saves money! How fun would it be to open up your bag Christmas morning an dig through a Bag O' Presents? My kids loved that idea! The best part is, after Christmas I can just fold up my bags and store them away for next year.

I decided to use red striped ticking for three reasons...1) I love,love, love ticking  2) its a little studier so it can hold heavier presents like books, laptops and in some cases...coal and 3) It's simple and reminds me of stripey peppermint candy canes...Mmmmm!

Thankful Felt Garland

Over the weekend I finished up my Thankful Felt Garland...just in time! It took a little longer than I thought. You know one of those projects you think you can do in a day (maybe you can), but after cutting and stitching each leaf and letter, and then adding buttons....whew!

It turned out so cute and festive, that I plan to keep it up until December 1st! I will not be tempted to decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving (but that doesn't mean I am working on Christmas-y things). I am desperately trying to simplify and slow down, and enjoy each holiday to the fullest and not rush into the next. 

Speaking of working on things...I am working on a little tutorial for something Christmas-y! I hope to have it finished up today and up tomorrow.

A Birthday Wish

We have a Birthday coming up next week, and I have received a special request for a doll from my daughter. She absolutely loves playing with The Bunny Whisperer and Cornu Copiae on a daily basis, and I usually have to go collect them from her room. Almost always she has them set up picnicking on the floor with plastic foods and small teacups...too cute!

I told her to draw up what she envisioned and this is what she came up with, complete with a 'Color Key'. This is not at all what I would have made for her and I am so glad I asked her! I had her 'Clarify' some details for me and she was very precise on what she wanted. Whewww...I hope I can pull this off!

Here are the fabrics I found in the colors she suggested. I may use all or only one or two, we'll see what my instinct says! I only have today and tomorrow to get most of the sewing done, as the kids will be off all of next week for Thanksgiving break. Most of the hand sewing will have to be done at night after the kids are snugly tucked in bed. Right then, off to work...wish me good luck please, I don't want to disappoint!
