Spinning Dancers

I totally forgot to show you my newest music box! I saw it awhile ago at an antique mall, and left without it. I thought about it almost everyday and went back a week later hoping it was still there....It was and I jumped for joy...I needed It and It needed me!

It winds up on the bottom and the man and woman are weighted on the bottom with a magnet. When you switch it on the dancers spin around each other and around the mirrored dance floor. It's really the cutest thing I have ever seen, and every child that spies it is instantly drawn to it.

I was watching my friends' two year old daughter the other day, she was so excited about the dancers! Her eyes brightened every time they would spin around (as if they were magic), and she would squeal and laugh and spin around right along with them! The funniest thing was watching her try to figure out how they moved. She would pick them up and they would stop, then put them back down where they would immediately start dancing again. She did this over and over...and it kept her busy for quite awhile. Who needs expensive fancy toys?

Sometimes when I am sitting on the couch sewing, I will lean over to the table and wind it up and watch them dance so happily together!

"There's No Place Like Home"

What is the first thing you think of when you hear Kansas...Wizard of Oz probably? I wonder if people from Kansas ever get tired of hearing "There's No Place Like Home" or " I Don't Think We're In Kansas Anymore Toto"!

With each block I work on I like to do a little research so I get a good idea of what that state is all about. I found some very interesting places you can visit and realized that Kansas needed to be on my Travel List. I already knew about Lindsborg because of the Lindsborg Dancers we saw this summer at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. They were so kind and invited us to come visit!I

If you are into more quirky things to see & do here are a few suggestions:

Cawker City has the World's Largest Ball of Twine that weighs approximately nine tons and has a circumference of 40 feet.

Lucas has the World's Largest Collection of World's Smallest Version of World's Largest Things.

OR...you can visit Nickerson and stay at Hedrick's Exotic Animal Farm and Bed & Breakfast!

But the cowgirl in me is dying to take part in a cattledrive...Not sure the Honey is though, he is a true "City Slicker"!

Finished Little Peep!

My Little Peep Penny Rug is finished and I am just loving it, quick, satisfying and very cute! I added my own little touches to the finished piece, like sequins in some of the yolks of the eggs and the twig hanger! I had so much fun sewing this that I'm itchin' to try some of my very own ideas/patterns!

Little Peep Penny Rug

It has been a little while since I have had my hands busy sewing! These last few weeks have been crazy now that school has started back up again...whew!

Today, I had some down time and decided to rummage through my pattern box looking for something to work on. I forgot that I purchased this pattern a few years ago, and thought I would give it a go. I am a sucker for penny rugs, any shape or size, and I am still working on this one! The Little Peep Penny Rug is a bit more manageable since it measures only 10x14". These are truly addicting to make and Wooden Spool Design has some incredibly cute patterns...be forewarned!

The weather is getting cooler and a little crisper and this is the perfect project to work on with a Cuppa Joe or Spiced Chai. I've got mine sitting beside me, and needle and thread in hand!
