The Egg Carton of Curiosities...A Tutorial

When I used to home-school my kids, I was always on the lookout for learning tools and crafts in magazines and books. I came across this fun idea in my Family Fun Magazine, and made a smaller version for my kids to use. They really enjoyed playing with it, and realized quickly that one was not enough! There was some fighting over who's turn it was etc..etc...and it eventually got taken away...and forgotten about. With Spring here, I thought it would be a great time to make a new and bigger one "to share" (until I can collect more cartons). I like to call it The Egg Carton of Curiosities!

 What do you do with it?  I am so excited you asked...Follow me and find out!

MATERIALS: Egg Carton (not Styrofoam), Acrylic Paints, Paint Brushes, Awl, Card stock, Ribbon or String, Stamps, Tweezers.

The Little Giggleface House

My heart started beating a little faster when I saw this darling little house sitting on the shelf at a local second hand kids clothing store! Forget summer clothes for the kids...is the house for sale?

It's quite large (24"x18"), very sturdy, in good condition, furniture included...and all for $40. I think it's a pretty good deal. I'll take it!

Spring Snowstorm & A Few Necessities

There is a large snow storm heading this way! So I spent yesterday running all over town gathering supplies, getting ready to hunker down. I think I got everything necessary...more Black Cherry Raspberry Blood Orange Jam from Costco, an AMPLE amount of chocolate candy, and a take-n-bake pizza. Yep, I think that covers it!

Oh wait, I forgot...a quick stop at the thrift store, just in case there is something I "need" to "help us" survive this storm!

See, this lovely wooden bowl will definitely "help" hold the napkins!

And these Pepparkakor Cookie tins will certainly "help" to...hold...something I'm sure!



We are a huge gaming family and we Love our board games (more on this in another post), so a few thrifted games are just what we "need" to get us through the storm!



I found two interesting games, and one was still in the shrink-wrap. What luck!



These are the game pieces for Hog Tied (1981) and the Scrabble Rebus (1986). They look fun don't they?



But the real reason I got the games were for the pieces..no lie! I have a small idea brewing. We can at least try the games before I confiscate the pieces...MWHAHAHA!

So...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We are prepared!

P.B & BCRBOJ Sandwich

You can never go wrong with a yummy P.B & J and a tall glass of milk for lunch, especially when you have Black Cherry Raspberry Blood Orange Jam! For a few weeks now I have been eyeing this very large jar of E.D. Smith jam at Costco, but never got the guts to buy it...you know, in case it wasn't all that great.

 Well, good news...it's some Good Eatin'...Yummilicious...the Bees Knees!

Last week I had a few groceries I needed to get at Costco, and what luck...they were having a sampling. So, so tasty! I put one in my cart and couldn't get home fast enough to make a sandwich. I will warn you though, if you don't like chunks of fruit in your jam this one is not for you, because there are TONS of cherry chunks. My kids refuse to eat anything with chunks, even sweet fruit chunks, so that just means more for me and the Honey to eat! Next time I go to Costco I think I will put a few more in my cart, just to stockpile have on hand. You know how Costco is...one minute it's there, the next it's gone.

I think I will also experiment a bit and try it in a few recipes. Maybe some thumbprint cookies, black forest brownies, or with some crepes!  Oh La la! What do you think?
