This past weekend was the 10th Annual Denver Arts Festival, so my little family hopped on the bus and went downtown! The kids love riding the bus, because then they can look down at all the cars and out the huge windows at the world around them. Calvin gets so excited that he talks really loud and really fast!
It was such a beautiful day and there were so many great artist to see! We strolled from booth to booth admiring all the wonderful pieces of art and talking to some of the artist about their work. All this walking made me hungry, so off to look for some tasty treats...how about Cook's Fresh Market?
Mmmmm, that'll do just fine! Look at those deliciously stacked Pistachio Cannolis and the Chocolate Tiramisu Cupcakes. Do I go for a creamy Chicken Salad, some fresh Sourdough Bread and Cheddar Cheese, A Giant Snickerdoodle....you name it they have it, too many choices. The kids went for the NY Style Cheesecake on a Stick, and it was gone before I even turned around!
I love the diversity and free-spirit of the city, there are so many interesting things to see that don't usually happen in the 'burbs'....like a parade of Wildlife Animals (people in funky bright animal/mythical-like costumes) dancing through the streets and slapping high-5's to everyone. I tried to get a picture but they were being followed by a large crowd of people.
The street performers are always entertaining! I think my son had a little crush on a girl that was singing and playing her white guitar in the middle of the 16th Street Mall. He was a little too shy to put money in her guitar case, so sister Lauren helped him out...and then she sang a 'Thaaank Yooou', Calvin turned a little red and smiled from ear to ear!
Wait, there is one more very IMPORTANT place to stop....
That's right, you can't go downtown without stopping at my favorite cupcake shoppe Yum Yum Delights!
They didn't have a whole lot left since it was later in the afternoon, but we managed to get a Pink Lady, Chocolate Dutchess, Brown Cow and a Dulce de Leche cupcake. Looks like Olivia isn't complaining!
After a few bookstores, shopping and a lot of walking its time to head home. I think i'll be driving this cute thing home...
and the rest of the family can take the bus!
